A seed is planted

With over 25 years of coffee drinking as a consumer, a decade of automatic coffee machine experience, 4 years as a coffee roaster, countless conversations with home coffee users, and much disappointment as one, Michael’s frustration lead him to the concept of finally improving what has long been a poor imitation of what the home coffee experience should be.

July 2022

Trademark Approved

Bronson was officially trademarked under class 11 - coffee machine and all coffee related appliances

August 2022

Our first ever iteration of Bronson

After countless drawings and ‘first principal’ designs, we ended up with our first model of Bronson. Note the the automatic upper dispenser was originally designed to be a flap.

Also the water tank extended the whole length, with the waste water on the right hand side (grounds waste location was still an issue)

Research & Development

From the beginning, we have been constantly reverse engineering competitors machines. With our decade of experience with high usage commercial grade automatic machines, it was very interesting to find all home machines sharing the same or similar parts.

What stood out was competitors lack of attention to noise reduction, the repetition of design amongst many brands, and the inefficient use of space.

September 2022

Australian industrial design firms meet & greet

What started as a list of 20 prominent engineering firms to partner with got whittled down to just a few.

We had countless meetings during this period and sought guidance from external engineering contacts aswell.

July 2023

D+I selected as product engineering firm

With over 30 years in the design game, and the most awarded design firm in Australia, we committed to a contract and timeline to develop the first ever functioning prototype with Design + Industry. Part of the brief was to refine the current design to stand out in a crowd of stale competitors.

December 2023

The first unveiling

Five months of meetings, testing, parts analysis, iterations and brand philosophy lead to the creation of a design that we truly believe stands out amongst a field of copy cats, and a design that speaks to the brands fundamentals of simplicity and performance.

March 2024

Prototype 1.0

With time looming before the 135th Canton Fair, the first fully functioning prototype of Bronson was completed.

Despite being larger than the final version, the aesthetically pleasing lines, and ultra simplicity is obvious.

April 2024

135th Canton Fair

We packed Bronson tightly and travelled via Hong Kong to the extremely busy Canton Fair in GuangZhou.

Borine - Our New Manufacturing Partner

After 3 days of meeting over 100 potential manufacturing partners at the fair, we took the bold decision to travel to the manufacturing facility of Borine, who presented the best at the fair and asked the most intelligent questions.

Bronson travelled for 15 hours on a train from west to east China and arrived at Borine headquarters in Ningbo.

After the meeting, Borine’s head engineer’s final words were, “this is the best coffee machine design I have ever seen.”

June 2024

Global design patents

We have applied for and received design patents in Australia, China, UK, and Europe with USA to follow.

July 2024

China structural draft one

We flew back to China in July to meet with Borine and go over the first draft of the final design of Bronson with their engineering team.

Changes made included reducing the overall size, whilst keeping the functional aesthetics.

Note: final sizing 330 x 330 x 385cm

August 2024

August 2024 - July 2025

We are in the final weeks of completing the CAD drawings for Bronson’s eventual mass production.

This will lead to mould manufacturing, followed by pre-production testing.

We will continue to update the history of Bronson as we continue to make it.

To the first believers, it has been a 2 year journey to get here. Within 12 months, Bronson will be market ready, and will surely make a splash in an outdated industry.
